Memorial Day weekend is a busy and crazy weekend here, which means it's a great time to get away. We picked Sunriver, OR for our annual escape. Ryker was excited to see a Mod Pizza in Bend and chowed a whole pizza.
DeA showed everyone the house her parents owned when she was in high school.
Jens decided that this trip was the time she wanted to learn how to ride a bike. She fell quite a few times, but she got up each time.
It was sad but inspirational to watch.
She finally figured it out and could ride like a champ!
Sunriver has a cool water park for the kids (and adults). The water was about 80 degrees and the air was about 45 degrees. That meant that you tried to stay in the water as much as you could.
Well, I stayed in the water. The kids played on obstacle course and the water slides.
All the water park fun made everyone pretty tired. That made nap-time extra fun.
We enjoyed finding some great places to eat, and some that were not to great. It was an adventure each time.
Goody's ice cream parlor was a big hit with the kids.
It was nice having everyone worn out by dinner.
We would usually hit the water park in the morning, and then the kids would stare a lot at lunch.
We had some rainy weather that forced us inside. The mini putt-putt course was a fun activity.
I think we had fun, outside of one kid that melted down because he couldn't beat his dad.
DeA has always loved the Pine Tavern. We went while really hungry and tired, that made waiting for food a little hard.
They loved the scones and homemade lemonade.
DeA loved the memories.
The river that runs through Bend was especially pretty during the sunset.
Family selfie!
We stopped by DeA's great grandma's old homestead that is now a part of a museum in The Dalles, OR.
It was great for the kids to see how and where their great-great-great-great grandparents lived.
They had the home, the barn, and the privy. I guess the really important things.
I tried to get them to give it a whirl, just for posterity's sake. They wouldn't do it. I will tell you this: I would pee somewhere if I knew that my great-great-great-great granddad had used that same tree or outhouse. You kind of have to.
