The boys love hockey and were so very excited to play in a big tournament in Spokane.
DeA was not excited that the rinks were very cold.
My staff almost drove over to support the boys when they found out that liquor was being raffled off.
6:30am is probably too early to start a youth hockey tournament, but the boys played well. Ryker really wanted the hustle award, so multiple times he had his stick raised above his head like he was about to chop wood while he chased the puck.
One of the other parents got some great shots of the boys, including this one of both of them skating together.
And this one of Rock skating up ice with the puck. Once, Rock skated all the way from the defensive zone and put a shot just wide of goal, but chased it down behind the net and passed it to Ryker who shoveled it across the crease to a teammate who buried the one-timer for the go-ahead goal. It was pretty sweet hockey.
The last team that they played was a big one from Kelowna who was probably way too good and physical for this type of tournament. The boys started out timid, but then played up to the competition and played with them for the second half of the game. Rock especially realized that he could body up and get physical on defense and really thrived.
Ryker is improving by leaps and bounds, and has no problem mixing it up with the older, bigger kids.
The boys weren't the only ones worn out on Sunday.
They took some massive naps on Monday. Then Ryker got sick with a pretty impressive fever.
It wouldn't be a busy week without a band concert. Ryker seems glad to be back in it with his saxamaphone.
Jens refused to wave at me because she thinks that she is too good for me.
